BLACKPINK‘s music is always incredibly successful, with their songs ranking high on charts and their music videos getting immense amounts of views.
Officially, BLACKPINK’s Jennie and Jisoo have been credited for co-writing the title track “Lovesick Girls” for BLACKPINK’s first full-length album, The Album, released in 2020.
Rosé was also officially credited for working on her two solo songs, “On the Ground” and “Gone.”
And Lisa was officially credited for writing her part in DJ Snake‘s “SXY GIRL” with Ozuna and Megan Thee Stallion.
But it’s never been a secret among fans that BLACKPINK have often revealed their contributions for songs, even if they were never officially given credit.
+ jisoo wrote the korean parts of her cover for 'clarity'; jenlisa wrote their raps in their sure thing and so hot covers; Lisa wrote her rap in aiiyl; one of the writers literally said Lisa wrote her rap part in lthm

A fact that often frustrates fans, who understandably feel that BLACKPINK should be given credit for their hard work.
i don’t know why it’s so hard for them to credit blackpink in their songs. they always mention about taking part in it and being involved. if @ygent_official can do it to other artists then why the fuck can’t they do the same for the pinks? literally fuck you.

imagine blackpink’s notebook full of their own lyrics but they still don't get any credit when they are also the one who write their song, they deserve to be credited on their own song. fvck that yg's treatment.

And fans have once again received confirmation about how involved BLACKPINK actually are with their music, thanks to a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
Jisoo was very direct about their involvement, clearly stating that they aren’t just given their songs.
We don’t just receive a completed song.
-Jisoo in the Rolling Stone interview
In fact, according to Jisoo, all of the members are involved in every part of their songs’ creation.
We are involved from the beginning, building the blocks, adding this or that feeling, exchanging feedback.

And their involvement doesn’t simply start and stop at working on a song. According to Jisoo, the members are also involved in creating the choreography for their performances.
… We say, ‘How about adding this in the lyrics? How about adding this move in the choreography?’

Which, understandably, not only gives Jisoo an immense sense of pride…
… This process of creating makes me feel proud of our music.

But also helps her feel impassioned about the music that they perform.
If we just received pre-made songs, it would feel mechanical. I feel more love for the process…
-Jisoo in the Rolling Stone interview
But, of course, the members also talk about the immense pressure they have while making music. In the interview, both Jisoo and Jennie joke about the most enjoyable part of making music not being a part of the actual process.
Jisoo: The most fun is before we start making it.
Jennie: Or when it’s in the past.
And Rosé and Lisa also share how they envy their past selves when they were excited to step into the recording booth and not overwhelmed with pressure and expectation.
Rosé: When I recorded something for the first time, I was so excited. I didn’t know any better, so it was fun. I envy that now. Now, no matter how hard I try, a part of me is never satisfied.
Lisa: That’s an occupational disease. And I feel exactly the same.
But, as long as BLACKPINK continues to be involved in their music, showing off their true passion and talent, they are certain to release music that fans can excitedly look forward to.
