GOT7’s BamBam Gives (G)I-DLE’s Miyeon A Thai Nickname, And It Suits Her Perfectly

In “10-Minutes PlayTime” for Google Play Korea, (G)I-DLE‘s Miyeon and GOT7‘s BamBam won over everyone with their soft yet chaotic energy.

Toward the end of the video, Miyeon asked BamBam if he could give her a Thai nickname.

BamBam first explained that Thai nicknames are usually inspired by things like animals or colors associated with the person.

Miyeon then joked and asked if he could give her a nickname reflecting her beauty, leaving BamBam baffled, although he quickly came up with a savage response.

Miyeon: Can it express my … beauty?

BamBam: What’s going on? She’s talking to herself.

After a round of laughter, Miyeon then explained that the “Mi” from Miyeon comes from the word for rose (rose in Korean is 장미 jang-mi).

BamBam initially wanted to make her nickname related to roses, but the Thai word for red, สีแดง (S̄ī dæng), sounds a little weird as a name, especially with a Korean accent.

Instead, BamBam took a different route, taking Miyeon’s earlier joke seriously. In Thai, the word น้ำ (N̂ả) sounds like the flow and beauty of water, and he believed that would be the best nickname for Miyeon.

There is a name that sounds like the flow and beauty of water.

— BamBam

The pronunciation is similar to Nam, and while the basic definition of it is just water, the way you pronounce the word adds a softness that makes it simple yet charming. It suits Miyeon perfectly, given that at a glance, it’s easy to see her beauty, and if you get to know her, her various charms will have you falling in love.

Miyeon loved the nickname, and we might see her use it the next time (G)I-DLE goes to Thailand.
