LE SSERAFIM’s Sakura Gets Brutally Honest About “Celebrity Disease,” And It Showcases Her True Personality
LE SSERAFIM‘s Sakura got unexpectedly real about what kind of person she was when she first debuted, as well as what kind of person she strives to be now, especially as an idol.
In a recent interview on Weverse Magazine, Sakura spilled on everything from the group’s documentary to why she treats maknaes Eunchae and Kazuha in a special way.
But one of the most intriguing parts of the interview was when she discussed the privileges of being a celebrity, which can sometimes lead to “celebrity disease.” The subject came up when journalist Kim Rieun commented that, unlike her onscreen self, Sakura actually has some considerable fears.
You usually can’t go on any of the rides at amusement parks and you hate scary things, but you fall back in the FEARLESS trailer like you have no fear.
— Kim Rieun
According to Sakura, she does not want to let these fears become a limitation, especially not for other people. The last thing she wants is for her fears to be a “burden” on others.
I hate to be the person whose issues are bringing things down when there’s something we have to do, so if it’s something I can do if I just have a little courage, I’ll do it.
— Sakura
And yet, Kim Rieun pointed out, because she’s an idol, if she had an issue with something on set she could ask for it to be changed. Except, Sakura doesn’t do it.
Sakura did not hesitate to be brutally honest. She explained that she had, in fact, felt somewhat entitled when she was younger. But she’s learned a lot about how to treat people since then.
I think I was immature, self-centered and only thinking of myself when I first debuted. But I learned there’s certain things you should say and do to be considerate of others and build a good relationship the longer I’ve been an idol.
— Sakura
She commented that, while idols and celebrities deserve praise for their talent, “even more important is what kind of person they are.”
If you’re going to work together for a long time and make it enjoyable, the people you’re working with have to want to work with you, too. That’s the kind of person I want to be, and that’s the kind of group I want LE SSERAFIM to be, too.
— Sakura
Sakura has been praised for being outspoken about important issues in the K-Pop industry, whether it’s by calling out HYBE‘s dieting expectations for her group or by doing what she can to help preserve Eunchae’s childhood. In doing so, and in being so honest about her own efforts to improve herself as a person, she has proven that she’s not only kind but also a true role model!
