In a preview clip for Google Play Korea, GOT7‘s BamBam and (G)I-DLE‘s Miyeon showed the unexpected troubles that come with speaking multiple languages as they talked about GOT7’s fandom, Ahgases.
The conversation began relatively harmless, with Miyeon asking what kind of bird Ahgases would grow up to be. Ahgase translates to “baby bird” in Korean, and it’s a play on the similar pronunciation of IGOT7, the official fandom name.
BamBam often refers to Ahgases as chicks, so naturally, when they grow older, they become chickens.
It’s not the most endearing nickname out there, but it’s definitely one BamBam would give to his fans. It’s not as savage as Jinyoung calling Ahgases shoebills, though, and it’s not as cool as Mark dubbing Ahgases as phoenixes.

However, Miyeon couldn’t help but be slightly appalled by BamBam’s answer.
To a native English speaker, her reaction might not make sense, but if you understand Korean, you’ll know that the English word “chicken” that BamBam used is associated with fried chicken and nothing else.
닭 (dak) is used to describe the bird itself, and even other chicken dishes use the Korean term, like dak-galbi, a spicy stir-fried chicken dish.
So even though BamBam tried to clarify what he meant by saying he doesn’t have to eat the chickens, Miyeon was only more confused.
Only after imitating a live chicken did Miyeon realize he was referring to the bird and not the food, and she let out a sigh of relief as BamBam’s nickname for Ahgases finally clicked.
You wouldn’t think chicken would be a stumbling block for language, especially since Koreans do use the English term, but that’s what ended up making the conversation even more confusing and hilarious.
We can’t wait to see what more chaos may await with their interactions for Google Play Korea, which airs on October 21.
