The ex-husband and ex-in-laws of a Hong Kong model and influencer are facing murder charges after police discovered her mutilated body parts.
On Wednesday, February 22, an investigation was opened regarding the disappearance of Abby Choi, a Hong Kong model, and millionaire influencer.
Two days later, police found parts of Choi’s body inside a house in the Tai Po district. Over several days, police discovered a skull, ribs, and hair inside a large stainless steel soup pot and human legs inside a refrigerator. Soup believed to contain human tissue was also found.
At the residence, police also found a meat grinder, an electric saw, two types of choppers, a hammer, face shields, black raincoats, and a purple handbag that belonged to Choi.
According to police, Choi’s ex-husband, Alex Kwong, and former in-laws were questioned about the model’s disappearance but allegedly provided a “false and misleading statement.”
After discovering that the home where Choi’s remains were found was allegedly rented out by Kwong’s father, a former policeman, just months before, police arrested his parents and brother concerning the case.
A manhunt for Alex Kwong ended when police found the man on one of Hong Kong’s outer islands, allegedly planning to leave the city via speedboat.
A dispute over a multi-million dollar building owned by Choi under Kwong’s father’s name is alleged to be the motivation behind the murder.
According to local broadcaster RTHK, all four members of Kwong’s family appeared in court on February 28 and were denied bail. The case has been adjourned until May 8 to allow a full investigation as the search for Choi’s missing body parts continues.
Hailing from a wealthy family, Abby Choi was a highly sought-after influencer who often attended events like Paris Fashion Week and was featured in several magazines, including on the cover of L’Officiel Monaco‘s February edition.
Abby Choi was the mother of four children, including two with her current partner, Chris Tam.
