From “Episode 2” of King The Land, featuring male lead 2PM‘s Junho (also known as Lee Jun Ho) as Gu Won and female lead Girls’ Generation‘s YoonA (also known as Lim Yoon A) as Cheon Sa Rang, we got three things: A glimpse of Gu Won’s trauma, a lingering secret behind Gu Won’s birth mother, and—of course—a bit of unwitting spark between Gu Won and Cheon Sa Rang.
Catching herself in a “shit situation,” after getting caught using Gu Won’s fanciest hotel suite bathroom, Cheon Sa Rang has no choice but to apologize for being a nuisance. Gu Won, with a grudge in his heart for the treadmill incident, tells Cheon Sa Rang never to cross paths with him again.
Alas, as all romcoms go, Cheon Sa Rang ends up right in front of Gu Won again at his head manager inauguration—where we are made more aware of Gu Won’s trauma with “smiling faces.” Could this childhood trauma be a part of the reason he’s so distant from his father and stepsister?
Upon learning of Gu Won’s background AND realizing he is not the right tiger-shirt-wearing pervert that she made him out to be, Cheon Sa Rang promises that she’ll steer clear of him, except… She gets invited to represent the concierge team at the welcome dinner. Celebrating Gu Won’s return to the hotel with an extravagant tuna meal, Cheon Sa Rang comes to a rude understanding of how rich the Gus are—or, to be exact, how average she is.
Speaking of average, Cheon Sa Rang is seen struggling to keep things afloat with a below-average dude. Will her current withering relationship fuel interest in a certain conglomerate babe?
The episode comes to an end with Gu Won and Cheon Sa Rang getting roped into shooting a promotional video together. At the airport, Gu Won sees Cheon Sa Rang out of uniform—and glowing. How does he feel about it? He tries to act cool, but his ears burning red tells us otherwise. On site for the shoot, Cheon Sa Rang also sees Gu Won in a different light. Caution! Sparks in the air! Looks like sarang (love) will 100% be the troubled heir’s guwon (salvation). Are we walking straight into this enemies-turned-lovers trope? Yes. Yes, we are.
We are left with two questions for the next episodes: Who is the untraceable Han Mi So and how come Gu Won is looking for her? Avid K-Drama watchers know that Han Mi So is the lock holding shut the pandora’s box that is Gu Won’s past. With more information on Han Mi So, we’ll be able to understand Gu Won’s complicated nature!
