“I Got A Lot Of Death Threats”: Troye Sivan Spills On The Aftermath Of Revealing His “Crush” Stray Kids’ Hyunjin

In May, Troye Sivan met Stray Kids’ Hyunjin at Dua Lipa x Versace‘s “La Vacanza” 2023 Fashion Show. They appeared to chat and take pictures at the event, and the K-Pop idol even appeared on Sivan’s Instagram.

Still, Troye Sivan shocked netizens by reposting a fan edit of Hyunjin on his TikTok account the next month. He captioned it, “Anyone know how to reach this man :///”

STAYs (Stray Kids fans) appeared in the comment section, even teasingly suggesting Sivan subscribe to Hyunjin’s bubble for JYPNation (a subscription-based app where you can message your favorite K-Pop idol). At the time, Sivan had even liked and responded to some.
So, it was a surprise when Troye Sivan posted an unfortunate “update” to TikTok just a few days later. He wrote, “That’s the last time i publically crush on a K-Pop star i almost got murdered.”

STAYs were reassuring, and many were still hoping for a collab, especially knowing that Hyunjin is actually a fan of Sivan’s too. Yet, some even thought it was a “genius” marketing tactic to promote Troye Sivan’s new song “Rush” since he used the song’s audio for each video about Hyunjin.
Troye Sivan opened up about this situation in a new interview with Apple Music. The interviewer asked him what happened that would make Sivan say he was nearly murdered.
You asked on TikTok how to get a hold of K-Pop artist Hyunjin, and the fans went absolutely wild. You made a second one saying, ‘That’s the last time I publicly crush on a K-Pop star. I almost got murdered.’ What the hell happened, and what were some of like the craziest responses?

Troye Sivan confirmed that the response was “crazy.” He hesitated to say anymore, and he confessed that he was nervous to talk about it.

Sivan shared his first impression of Hyunjin. He thought that the idol was both attractive and “super sweet.”
But I’m like… I just thought he was super, super, super sweet, and like obviously like so beautiful.

So, as many of us have, Sivan went into a “deep dive” to discover more about Hyunjin. He realized how multitalented he is and naturally became even more interested.
And then I deep-dived, and I’m like, ‘This guy is insanely talented, like watching him dance, I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ It’s insane.

This led Sivan to post what he thought was a “cute” and innocent TikTok. He acknowledged that he saw a lot of nice responses, but it didn’t outweigh the negative, including death threats.
So, anyways, I put up this like, you know, cute TikTok, I thought… I got a lot of nice messages. Like a lot of people being like, ‘Oh, this is cute,’ whatever, but I also got like a lot of just like death threats and stuff like that. So, I am pulling the brakes on that.

This made Troye Sivan afraid, so he posted the second TikTok. The interviewer reminded him, “I also saw that a lot of fans want you two to collaborate,” to which Sivan responded that he would happily agree to.
