Netflix‘s new K-Drama Mask Girl, adapted from the Naver Webtoon of the same name by Mae Mi and Hee Se, was recently released.
Mask Girl focuses on Kim Mo Mi (also known as Mask Girl), an insecure office worker by day and a successful masked webcam girl by night. After a tragic turn of events, she undergoes plastic surgery and moves, hoping to leave the past behind her.
Kim Mo-mi (Lee Han-byeol/Go Hyun-jung/Nana), an office worker who is insecure about her looks, becomes a masked internet personality by night — until a chain of unexpected, ill-fated events overtakes her life.

After moving, Mo Mi (After School‘s Nana) worked as a dancer at a nightclub, where she met Kim Chun Ae (Han Jae Yi). They realized they had much in common (they were even mistaken for each other). Both had been outcasts that underwent plastic surgery to become beautiful. So, the two became best friends and shared the spotlight at the nightclub.
Later, Mo Mi encouraged Chun Ae to run away when her ex-K-Pop-idol boyfriend Choi Bu Yong (Lee Jun Young) discovered she had leaked his scandal. Although he had been leeching off her, he punished her by assaulting her.
When he caught Chun Ae sneaking out, he attempted to stop her, attacking her again. Mo Mi came in and saved her, and the two killed him together.

Unfortunately, Mo Mi’s past comes to haunt her. She had killed men before. One is her former coworker/biggest fan, Ju Oh Nam (Ahn Jae Hong). She stabbed him after he raped her.
Although she changed her identity, his mother, Kim Kyung Ja (Yeom Hye Ran), sought her out to avenge him. So, when the friends attempted to dispose of Bu Yong’s body, Kyung Ja caught them.
Mo Mi and Chun Ae attempted to save each other by claiming to be “Mask Girl.” Ultimately, Kyung Ju decided to kill both. They don’t give up without a fight, though. Unfortunately, Chun Ae ended up dying, attempting to save Mo Mi.
While Mo Mi and Chun Ae had a tragic ending, viewers loved their relationship. Although they never appeared romantically involved, viewers appreciated the sapphic vibes.

Fans just wished that they could have gotten more. It ended before it even started. They didn’t deserve such a sad ending.

Yet, theirs is not the only subtly sapphic story in Mask Girl. Before Chun Ae died, Mo Mi told her that she was pregnant by Ju Oh Nam. She chose to have the baby.
“My mom never told me I was pretty growing up. Even if the baby is ugly, I’m gonna tell them they’re pretty.”
I’m so sad Momi barely had time with Mimo because she would’ve been such a good mom#MaskGirl #MaskGirlEp7 pic.twitter.com/DdDvxanY4t

Her daughter, Mi Mo (Shin Ye Seo), is later befriended by Kim Ye Chun (Kim Min Seo). The two become friends, but viewers could not help but think that there were more than just platonic feelings between the two, especially when Ye Chun kissed Mi Mo in front of a rainbow design. They’re so cute!

Mask Girl fans loved the two friendships in this K-Drama. Hopefully, Ye Chun and Mi Mo live a happier life together than Chun Ae and Mo Mi.

Viewers also pointed out that all the male characters in Mask Girl were more than just red flags.
Mask Girl is really for the girls!
