Following the massive success of The Glory, fans of Lim Ji Yeon were excited to learn the actress would star in the drama adaptation of The Killing Vote.
The Killing Vote, also known as National Death Penalty Vote, is a cop thriller centered around a mysterious figure, Gaetal, who has decided to take the law into his own hands.
Each week, Gaetal chooses a criminal who escaped justice through system failures and allows the country’s citizens to decide if they live or die.
Lim Ji Yeon and Park Hae Jin play two cops put on a special force to apprehend the Gaetal. In the latest episodes, prisoner Kwon Seok Joo (Park Sung Woong), who plays a huge part in the identity and philosophy of Gaetal after taking revenge on his daughter’s murderer, aids the officers as they capture who they believe to be Gaetal.
Park Hae Jin’s character, Kim Mu Chan, does not believe the suspect they have captured is Gaetal, and as it turns out, he is right — at least partially.
Kim Kwon plays high school teacher Lee Min Soo, the son of National Assembly member Min Ji Young (Kim Yoo Mi), who already has a proven streak of violence. In earlier episodes, he is seen beating an actress he slept with, who then threatens to reveal this to the public when Min Ji Young attempts to pay her off.
Min Ji Young then has the actress’ face cut up by a security guard.
This is only the start of the look into this truly messed up family.
In episode five, we see Lee Min Soo take on an almost infant-like persona around his mother, who plays into it. This scene occurs inside Lee Min Soo’s room, and the body language gives husband and wife rather than mother and son.
Episode 6 is the one that truly takes the cake.
In addition to implying that Lee Min Soo is the person who might have been behind the murder and rape of Kwon Seok Joo’s daughter and giving horrible light to what could now be considered pedophilic habits, his mother drops huge bombshells — he is Gaetal, she knows, and it’s not the first time that he has killed.
Instead of expressing horror at this discovery, Min Ji Young displays a cold indifference at first before expressing joy that her sweet baby boy can be useful to her as the episode ends.
While there is undoubtedly more behind Gaetal’s identity, this murderous, incest-like bond between mother and son truly might be the most f*cked up in K-Drama history. ‘
