In 2021, fast-food chain McDonald’s announced its collaboration with K-Pop group BTS for The BTS Meal as part of its Famous Orders initiative. The meal included South Korea’s Cajun and Sweet Chili dipping sauces with 10 McNuggets (9 in some countries), fries, and a Coca-Cola.
It’s been two years already, and McDonald’s still has not brought back the Cajun or Sweet Chili sauces, although customers loved them. They were only available for a limited time unless you’re in South Korea.
Yet, netizens are still holding out hope. Now, McDonald’s has introduced two new sauces, and while neither are Cajun or Sweet Chili, they are comparable.
We get inspiration for the food our fans love by exploring the incredible tastes and flavors found in communities across the country. Sweet & Spicy Jam and Mambo Sauce live at the intersection of flavor and culture – pulling from decades of rich food history and tradition in local restaurants and home kitchens, and bringing the delicious spice, sweetness and kick of heat we know today’s customers are craving. To celebrate their arrival, we’re passing the mic to some of our biggest sauce fans – food content creators – to get their authentic reactions from the very first, drizzle, dip and bite.

@McDonalds do u like my sauce board?
The new sauces are Sweet & Spicy Jam and Mambo Sauce, which were introduced on October 9. While Cajun Sauce was compared to a spicier version of Honey Mustard, the Mambo Sauce is a sweet and spicy tomato-based sauce.
A tomato-based, sweet, spicy and vinegary sauce; inspired by the regional Washington, D.C. area sauce staple. Dial-up the flavor on your next: Quarter Pounder® with Cheese, Hash Browns, Chicken McNuggets®, McCrispy, World Famous Fries®.

Some have actually found it to be similar to the Sweet Chili Sauce. Yet, the Sweet & Spicy Jam, which has been said to go great with breakfast items, is also reminiscent of Sweet Chili as it’s sweet but includes spices from cayenne pepper and Szechuan peppercorn.
McDonald’s Sweet & Spicy Jam dipping sauce is a jammy red pepper sauce with a Szechuan peppercorn kick and extra heat from cayenne pepper; finished with apple cider vinegar. There are 80 calories in a packet of Sweet & Spicy Jam.
Our first sauce drop made for breakfast—try it with a Sausage McMuffin® with Egg, Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit or drizzled on your Hash Browns. Great with McNuggets® & Fries, too.

Since the release of the new sauces, netizens have suggested similarities. Still, many hope McDonald’s will soon bring back The BTS Meal sauces.
