Korean Reporter’s Major Mess Up On Broadcast Goes Viral

A Korean reporter has hit a viral nerve on TikTok, but not because of her excellent reporting skills. The reason is, in fact, quite the opposite.

A clip of a reporter named Jeong Mi Yeon has gone viral on TikTok, where she struggles to give a weather forecast. Standing in the backdrop of a city filled with smog, Jeong started talking about fine dust and other allergens taking over Seoul. But before she could finish her sentence, her voice cracked with the most hilarious hoarse groan. Though she was taken aback for a moment, Jeong continued like a professional before suffering an even funnier voice crack on camera.

The embarrassment didn’t stop there. The reporter back in the studio tried to brave through the segment without laughing, talking about the benefits of bellflower roots for the respiratory system during such transitional seasons. But unfortunately, Jeong’s mic was still on, and she could be heard off-camera yelling, “Oh no! This can’t be happening!” A cameraman yelled back, I told you [to take care of that].”

The segment then cuts off to show a doctor who elaborates on how bellflower roots are good for one’s immune system and can prevent coughs and phlegm.

But back in the studio, both the male and female reporters are still struggling to hold back their chuckles at Jeong’s earlier mistake. As they try to finish the segment, informing the audience about a new drink by Binggrae with bellflower roots, they break into a cackle, and the camera cuts off promptly, giving the clip the perfect comic ending.

While netizens are in splits over this rare sight of professional reporters breaking their shells on live TV, there is a twist to this video that many didn’t anticipate.

In reality, this video is not from any actual news program but an advertisement for the bellflower root drink from Binggrae! The clip actually went viral on YouTube almost a decade ago when it first came out. The genius creativity and the actors’ performances had almost all international viewers fooled, who had to be informed by Korean netizens that it was not a real incident.

The fact that this clip still holds the same virality factor all these years later is a commendable feat for every creative involved with its making!
